A Successful Leader Doesn't Succumb to this S.O.B.
These past few months have seen an incredible rise in stress, overwhelm, and burnout among healthcare workers and leaders in particular. We’re facing unprecedented times and working in extremely difficult situations. While it’s easy to blame the global pandemic, over the next few months here on our blog, we’ll be diving deep and getting up close and personal with our real enemy.
This one’s a real S.O.B.
(And no, it doesn’t stand for that!)
The real S.O.B. you should be avoiding is not your demanding boss, your flaky friend or even your cranky aunt – it’s Stress, Overwhelm, and Burnout. This S.O.B. is the worst monster of them all and will derail and destroy your career as surely as Godzilla will destroy the next building in his path.
The American Institute of Stress has found that increased levels of job stress “have been demonstrated to be associated with increased rates of heart attack, hypertension, and other disorders”. In addition to health woes, the American Psychological Association asserts that job stress “frequently causes burnout, a condition marked by emotional exhaustion and negative or cynical attitudes toward others and yourself”. With both physical and mental health are on the line, it’s clear that the S.O.B. monster is one to avoid at all costs.
It’s easy to say, in the words of Bob Marley that “every little thing gonna be alright”, but it’s much more difficult to believe and takes will power to implement strategies that will help you become a successful leader instead of the S.O.B.’s next meal.
In our world, a successful leader leads and lives in a way that it creates a long, continuously advancing, and high performing career - a life in which earning more money and creating more wealth happens easily, and all of it gets done without the harmful effects of stress, burnout, and overwhelm.
Most leaders think this is impossible when they first hear this.
“Advancing career?”
“No stress?”
“I am barely making it work as it is!”
“More money, how?”
And it does sound a bit preposterous...I can feel your bullshit detectors going up. “Let me see what silver bullet this guy going to sell.” Maybe you’re expecting some “quick tips for time management” or “meditation magic” to convince you to buy something from me. Or, some “time is money” trickery. (even though it is, but we’ll address that later on).
I wish there were a magic cure-all, but alas. This series will include not tricks, but tools. Follow along and learn how knowledge of market trends and research evidence, combined with conventional wisdom & experience can help you accomplish all of this (and identify where you're messing up and how to avoid doing that). I promise, it’s all very practical hands on stuff without any fluff. And the stress on money is there for a purpose 😉.
